Camp Q&A
CAN A CHILD WITH NO PREVIOUS MUSIC EDUCATION ATTEND FERRWOOD? 🎼
Yes. However, if they have yet to experience reading music or playing an instrument, they will join choral (vocals) as a beginner. They may take private lessons during their free time. The private instructor would determine the cost and payment arrangements.
ARE ELECTRONIC DEVICES PERMITTED AT CAMP? 📱
Electronic devices are permitted, but strongly discouraged for the following reasons:
-
We do not accept responsibility for lost or stolen devices.
-
There are more than 100 participants each week. There are limited outlets available for charging. More than one phone has been destroyed when charging in a wet bathroom.
-
The possibility of taking an inappropriate image of another student is diminished if there is no device to take a picture. Removing the possibility is the easiest way to avoid unpleasant or legal situations. If a participant feels the need to speak with a parent, the counselors will allow calls from a counselor's phone.
-
Participants are strongly encouraged to join in the many outdoor activities rather than spend time on electronic devices. Counselors and volunteers post appropriate pictures and videos of the week on the Ferrwood.org website for the viewing of all.
DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO DECIDE BETWEEN ART OR MUSIC? 🖼️
Yes. They must decide one or the other as your primary class. Both disciplines are taught between 9 am - 11 am and 6 pm - 7:30 pm. During free time, students are welcome and encouraged to try either art or music. Note: If registering for two weeks, a child may take music one week and art the other week.
How old does my child have to be to attend camp?
• To attend as a resident camper students have to have completed 5th grade. Recently graduated seniors are also allowed to attend.
• Day campers would have had to complete fourth grade. Fourth grade students cannot be residents.
What if my child has food allergies? 🥜
Parents must make the camp director aware of any allergies or special needs. We will work this out on an individual basis.
IS there a gender neutral REstroom?
Yes, but resident campers must use in the dorm that coincides with the gender on their camp registration form.
